A bicyclist sustained life-threatening injuries Friday evening after being hit in the San Souci area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police said around 3:45 p.m. they responded to reports of a crash with life-threatening injuries in the 1800 block of West Road.
At the scene, police found a male bicyclist in his early to mid-twenties in the middle of the road. Police said that a red vehicle which was responsible for hitting the bicyclist was still on the scene.
That bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to JSO. His identity has not been released.
JSO said the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with police as they investigate. Witnesses to the crash are also cooperating, they said.
At this time the incident is being investigated by JSO'sTraffic Homicide team.
The road is expected to be closed as they investigate, seek an alternative route.
