COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — An 18-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a three-car crash on Interstate 75 in Columbia County Monday night.

The woman, from Orlando, was driving a sedan north on I-75 near mile marker 427, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. A second sedan was slowing down in the left lane because of stopped traffic ahead, the report says. A tractor-trailer was stopped in traffic in the middle lane ahead of the second vehicle.

The first driver failed to slow down, crashing the right front of her vehicle into the left rear of the second car, according to the FHP report. The first car then left the road and crashed into the center guardrail, then reentered the roadway, skidding northeast and crashing into the back of the tractor-trailer, FHP says.

The driver of the first car was taken to Shands UF in critical condition, the report says.

The second vehicle's occupants, six people from Little Rock, Arkansas, were treated for only minor injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 41-year-old Miami man, was not injured.
