St. Johns CO. Public Library System opens Seed Library for the community

St. Johns County Public Library System opens Seed Library at Southeast Branch Library for the community.

The St. Johns County Public Library System partnered with community leaders Tuesday to bring a Seed Library to the Southeast Branch Library.

The Seed Library will offer a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds for community members to plant and grow at home.

The library is a result of a partnership with the St. Augustine Amphitheatre Farmers Market, Green Hands Initiative, Edible Northeast Florida and Maritime Creative.

Its purpose is to enable the community to create local seed stocks acquainted with the unique Florida climate to support a genetically diverse landscape.

According to the release, the Seed Library project has been slowly developing over the past year and received a great deal of momentum through the generous donation of an “old-school” card catalog by Maritime Creative.

The Southeast Branch Library is located at 6670 U.S. 1 South in St. Augustine.
