Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson hosts football camp for military children

More than 100 military and Gold Star children were preselected by Survivor Outreach Services, the Florida National Guard Child and Youth Program and the Jaguars Foundation to participate in the camp.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jaguars defensive tackle Malik Jackson hosted a football camp for military children inside the team's flex field on Wednesday.

More than 100 military and Gold Star children were preselected by Survivor Outreach Services, the Florida National Guard Child and Youth Program and the Jaguars Foundation to participate in the camp.

"It's important to give back to the military because they sacrifice so much," Jackson said. "These kids, they don't really ask for their parents to go away, but we understand the importance of having a safe country [and] being able to help the world, so for them to be able to sacrifice that, I just want to be able to give a little bit back to them."

Jackson was joined by several of his teammates, including quarterback Blake Bortles, wide receiver Marqise Lee, first-round defensive tackle Taven Bryan, safety Don Carey, nose tackle Abry Jones and All-Pro defensive end Calais Campbell.

The two-hour camp featured a trio of specialized drills. The Jaguars players served as coaches for each drill as the children's parents watched from the sideline.

"It's awesome cause I told the guys I have a camp and it's for military kids and they all stood up and wanted to come," Jackson said. "And when you have guys that want to come out on their day off at six o'clock when they could be easily sitting at home, chilling with their significant other or doing something that they want to do, it's very humbling and I appreciate them so much."
