The first playoff appearance in Jacksonville Icemen looks to be even closer than before.

The Icemen (32-25) defeated the Greenville Swamp Rabbits 2-1 Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Arena. With the win, the Icemen completed the two-game sweep of the last-place Swamp Rabbits, and now turn their attention to a 3 p.m. showdown with the Atlanta Gladiators Sunday afternoon.

The win came despite being out-shot by the Swamp Rabbits 24-15; that translated to a big day for goalie Ken Appleby, who had 23 saves for the Icemen.

Everett Clark got Jacksonville on the board just 2:25 into the first period. Clark would also provide the assist on David Broll's second goal, which, after a late, third-period score from the Swamp Rabbits, would prove to be the game winner.

The Icemen wrap up this home-stand with the Gladiators before heading on the road for their next five games. They return to Veterans Memorial Arena March 29 to face the same, Atlanta Gladiators at 7:30 p.m.
