Icemen fall in overtime thriller to open 2019 season

Third straight season-opening sell-out in Jacksonville

Despite a sell-out crowd of 8,587, the Jacksonville Icemen dropped their season opener 4-3 to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. The Icemen do pick up a point in the standings with the overtime loss.

The Swamp Rabbits took a 1-0 lead into the second period before the Icemen found their footing on offense. Emerson Clark tied the game with his first of two goals on the night. Greenville immediately answered back but a Chase Witela breakaway tied the game once more, making it 2-2 entering the third and final period of regulation.

Clark would light the lamp a second time with just under 14 minutes remaining in regulation. However, once again, the Swamp Rabbits had the answer -- this time courtesy of Cedric Lacroix. That sent the game to overtime, where the Swamp Rabbits prevailed thanks to a Nathan Perkovich goal 19 seconds in.

The Icemen are off until next Friday, when they pay a visit to North Carolina and these same, Swamp Rabbits.
