UGA clinches third consecutive SEC East title against Auburn

The Bulldogs almost let a late-game lead slip away against the Tigers, but their defense came up big in the final minutes of the game.

The Georgia Bulldogs are SEC East Champions after their 21-14 victory over the Auburn Tigers on Saturday - their third consecutive SEC East championship. More importantly, the Bulldogs clinched their spot in the College Football Playoffs.

"It's a credit to our staff and our players who work tremendously hard," said head coach Kirby Smart. "That was a tough environment and a good football team. We had some big plays in the red area which was huge for us because we had not done that a lot before."

The Bulldogs (9-1, 6-1) had full control in the first half of the game, but Auburn made it interesting in the second half by scoring 14 points and having an opportunity to tie the game with just over two minutes left in the game.

But Georgia's defense sacked Bo Nix on fourth down on the Tigers' final drive to end the game.

Jake Fromm threw for three touchdowns and D'Andre Swift had 17 carries for 106 yards.

Auburn's defense contained Georgia's offense for the majority of the second half. But Fromm’s five-yard touchdown pass to Eli Wolff with 13 seconds left in the third quarter gave the Bulldogs a commanding 21-0 lead.

Georgia's victory sets up a potential SEC Championship match with the LSU Tigers in Atlanta on Dec. 7.
