Cardinals legend Bob Gibson fighting pancreatic cancer

Hall of famer Bob Gibson, one of the toughest competitors in baseball history, is fighting pancreatic cancer, his agent confirms.

One of the toughest competitors in Cardinals history is now taking on another tough opponent. Cancer.

Gibson's agent, Dick Zitzman, confirmed to 5 On Your Side's Frank Cusumano Saturday night that Cardinals legend is fighting pancreatic cancer.

Gibson is one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history.

He amassed 251 wins, two Cy Young Awards, an MVP, a career 2.91 ERA. nine gold gloves, nine all star appearances, and two World Series titles in 17 years in the major leagues, all with the Cardinals.

He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981, and his number 45 is retired for the Cardinals.

Gibson will be 84 in November.
