VIP Treatment: Andrew Jackson HS students receive prom surprise

Most of us can remember our high school prom. But, not everyone has the opportunity to make those special memories.

Do you remember your high school prom?

Most of us can remember where we had dinner that night, what we wore, the prom king and queen. But, not everyone has the opportunity to make those memories. That's why one business owner, with the help of others on the First Coast, decided to make this year's prom special for some young men.

"It was pretty exciting. It felt good," Dejon Batiste said.

Dejon Batiste and Frankie Dennard, both students at Andrew Jackson High School, were chosen to receive VIP treatment for prom. They got fresh haircuts, facials, manicures, and pedicures. The young men have overcome difficult circumstances in their lives, especially Frankie.

"My dad died when I was like one, so I don't really know my dad. My mom passed away when I was like eight," Frankie explained.

Frankie's grandmother was taking care of him, but she recently passed away.

"She was taking care of about seven of us off a social security check and food stamp cards," Frankie said.

Maurice Miller is the owner of Groom Therapy in Downtown Jacksonville. He made this all happen along with other business owners in the community.

"We all know these memories we make at that age last for the rest of their life," Miller responded.

Not only did Frankie and Dejon receive fresh haircuts and facials, they were given custom made tuxedos.

"Thank you so much. Thank you so much.  It was really a blessing," Dejon said.

"That's God just putting angels around me.  Because of all the bad things I could have around me, I still got positives too," Frankie added.
