In 2010, then Sgt. Robert "Corey" Sasser shot and killed an unarmed Tallahassee woman, Caroline Small, after they ordered her out of her car and she did not comply.

After a low-speed chase, three Brunswick police officers drew their weapons and demanded that the 35-year-old mother of two get out of the car. When she attempted to flee, the officers shot through the windshield, striking Small twice in the head.

Officers could be heard over dashcam saying, “She’s dead. Her head exploded.”

But Small was not dead, she lived for another week

But one of the officers replied, “If she moves the car, I’m going to shoot her.” The trooper, seeing he was in the line of fire, ran for cover.

Small, through the noise and chaos, began to move forward again. Sasser and Officer Todd Simpson, fired eight rounds through her windshield, striking her twice in the head.

Police never checked to see whether Small was still alive. They talked about their marksmanship and waved off a witness who asked if he should render aid, telling him, “She’s dead. Her head exploded.”

But Small was not dead. She survived another seven days on life support until she was taken off of it.

Sasser was never indicted on any charges for this shooting and was later promoted to Lieutenant.

Last month, Sasser was arrested after showing up at his estranged wife's home, threatening her life and the life of her boyfriend, identified as Hall.

Sasser was released on bond and reported to Glynn County court Tuesday. During that hearing he was banished the county and was ordered to not possess firearms.

Sasser, his estranged wife, and her boyfriend died after a shootout at the boyfriend's McIntosh, Georgia home.

Just after 9 p.m. Thursday, McIntosh police responded to a call of shots fired at 1316 Mission Drive SE in Darien, Ga. When police arrived, suspended Glynn County Lt. Robert Corey Sasser gave a "decoy story" to the responding officers before speeding off, authorities said at a news conference Friday morning in Glynn County.

Sasser exchanged gunfire with John Hall Jr., the resident of the McIntosh County home. Hall was there with Sasser's estranged wife. They were found shot to death.

Officers say they followed Sasser to his Glynn County home on Hunters Drive in a low-speed chase. SWAT was deployed to the scene and attempted to get Sasser to come out of his vehicle using CS gas. When they finally reached him, Sasser was dead, police said adding that they did not fire any shots into his vehicle.
