A 16-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a vehicle while jogging along A1A in St. Johns County early Wednesday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol says Zander Laurin, of Ponte Vedra, was jogging southbound in the bicycle lane of A1A when he was struck on Gnarled Oaks Drive by a Toyota Tundra traveling south.

The teen was airlifted to UF Health in Jacksonville where he later died.

The driver of the Toyota stayed on the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, according to FHP.

Laurin was a sophomore at Ponte Vedra High School.
