Officer in marked FHP patrol car hits and kills St. Augustine pedestrian

An FHP DUI officer was attempting to overtake a vehicle when he accidentally struck and killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning.

An FHP DUI officer was attempting to overtake a vehicle when he accidentally struck and killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, an FHP DUI officer in a marked Dodge Charger was traveling southbound on US-1 near the intersection of SR-207 around 2 a.m. when Vincent Kinslow, 33, walked into the path of the officer's car and was struck.

According to Sergeant Dylan Bryan, Officer Kenneth Montgomery was attempting to track down and pull over a driver when Kinslow came into his path.

Kinslow was not using a crosswalk, according to FHP.

He later died from his injuries at Flagler Hospital.

The St. Augustine Police Department notified the public on their Facebook page around 3 a.m. Sunday that a "Vehicle v. Pedestrian fatality" incident had occurred.
