Man arrested, charged with murder of girlfriend, originally said it was a suicide

Autopsy testing on Hite revealed the distance from the gunshot wound to the muzzle of the pistol was longer than two feet, indicating Hite could not have reached that far to shoot herself.

A Jacksonville man was arrested for the murder of his 20-year-old girlfriend.

Sean Lovins, 27, was distraught, according to police, when they reported to 2043 Dunsford Terrance in July 2017. He told police his girlfriend, 20-year-old Aunesty Hite, had shot herself.

Physical evidence did not indicate that Hite had taken her own life. Over a year, scientific tests were done to determine that Lovins' original account of suicide was not likely.

According to the arrest warrant, testing conducted on Lovins revealed gunshot residue on his left hand, even though Lovins denied touching the pistol, which belongs to him, during the 911 call.

Autopsy testing on Hite revealed the distance from the gunshot wound to the muzzle of the pistol was longer than two feet, indicating Hite could not have reached that far to shoot herself.

The report goes on to read, "After reviewing the additional testing conducted on the evidence, Dr. Pfalzgraf (autopsy examiner) determined the manner of death to be homicide."

Lovins did not make a statement.

Hite's family said they never believed she killed herself.
