JSO investigating teenage group brawl that ended in the death of a 19-year-old

According to JSO, two girls began to fight over social media which culminated in a street fight on Jan. 26. More than 100 people came to the fight on Ken Knight Dr.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a group brawl late January that started as an online fight between two teenage girls and ended with the death of a 19-year-old.

The shooting happened in the Ken Knight Drive area on Jan. 26.

According to the JSO, two high school-aged girls began fighting with each other on social media. As the conflict brewed, a fight was organized between the two girls, which would happen after 6 p.m. in the Ken Knight Drive area.

JSO said more than 100 people came to watch the girls fight. As the fight began, gunfire erupted, leading people to scramble around the area.

"People started scrambling, it was sheer chaos," said Mike Bruno, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Director of Investigations.

By the time police arrived on the scene, one bystander had been killed.

Family identified the victim as 19-year-old Larry Tould. They are asking for someone to come forward with information that could bring justice.

"Please come forward and help us solve his murder," Tould's mother said. "If you have any information, please call."

Bruno said police have conducted a number of interviews, but some witnesses have not fully cooperated.

"We're just looking for the community's support," Bruno said.

On Your Side's Crime and Safety Expert Mark Baughman said distrust of law enforcement, or notably fear of retaliation, could be keeping people from coming forward.

"Even though 100 people showed up, whatever is passed on, it could be a minute detail where only four or five people were privileged to that information," Baughman said. "Somebody could figure that out and by process of elimination find out who did that."

JSO said the death remains under investigation.
