Mayor Lenny Curry made his budget proposal at City Hall on Monday morning and stated that a large part of his budget will continue to support law enforcement and the resources they use to fight crime.

He says the budget reflects the principles he prioritizes which includes a reduction in city debt, contingencies to sustain unforeseen challenges, increase in funding to fire and rescue, and more.

"This is a balanced budget that makes strategic investments in the future of our city, without raising taxes," said Curry.

Curry said that the general fund budget for this fiscal year $1.374 billion dollars with public safety receiving an additional $70 million dollars.

This budget also supports increased safety at Duval County public schools with the Jacksonville Sheriff Office school guardian program. Curry said that last year $3.3 million was allocated for the program which will jump to $3.8 million in this new budget.
