A massive hole in the eastbound outside turn lane of Beach Boulevard at Falcon Ridge is expected to be fixed within the next week, barring any unforeseen weather delays, the Florida Department of Transportation said Thursday.
The hole opened around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Crews arrived at the scene 15 minutes later and determined the hole opened due to a caved in 48-inch drainage pipe, FDOT said.
Crews were able to control the growth of the hole and are working to ensure that drainage continues to flow properly, officials said.
With heavy rainfall in the area, the hole grew at an accelerated rate, which caused the road to cave in near the area of Falcon Ridge.
FDOT said a single-lane closure on Beach Blvd. may be needed to facilitate the repair work.
