'This has to stop': Mother of coach killed in Parkland shooting demands reasonable gun laws

“Reasonable gun control legislation, reasonable gun control laws are for the safety of humanity," she said.

Linda Beigel Schulman spent Valentine’s Day back at her son’s school, but returning to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School wasn’t easy.

“I walked down the path today and it was just like reliving last year, what it was like last year when we walked down the path," she said on the shooting's one year anniversary. "This has to stop."

Her son, Scott Beigel, was a geography teacher and coach. He was one of three staff members killed along with 14 students when a former student opened fire during school. He died saving students’ lives.

One year later, while many families chose to spend the day out of the view of television cameras, Beigel stepped in front of them because she wants everyone to hear her story. She wants change.

“I’m going to make sure in his honor and legacy we save lives and make people safe,” she said. “Reasonable gun control legislation, reasonable gun control laws are for the safety of humanity.”

And to her son, she says, “I want you to understand with every breath I have and as much as I love you and I miss you, we are going to make a change and be together and we’re going to do it together.”
