Suspect in custody after domestic battery leads to SWAT call in Jacksonville Beach neighborhood

A woman with non-life-threatening injuries was safely removed from the home, but the male suspect refused to come out and SWAT was called to the scene.

One man is in custody Saturday after he reportedly barricaded himself inside a Jacksonville Beach home which prompted a SWAT call, according to police.

Jacksonville Beach Police said the incident stemmed from a domestic battery that was reported at around 4 p.m. in the 200 block of 19th Avenue North. A woman with non-life-threatening injuries was safely removed from the home, but the male suspect refused to come out and SWAT was called to the scene.

Many neighbors were kept from going inside their homes and roads in the area were closed until the situation was resolved.

"We saw the cops coming out and we saw the community police officer walking the streets," said one witness. "This is not an area that you see stuff like this happen."

Another witness told First Coast News she saw the suspect surrender to police.

"A guy walked in and got on his knees," she recalled. "He surrendered."
