Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officer Lance Whitaker died in an accident as he was responding to a call on a rain-slick road in Jacksonville on May 15.
Following church services at Evangel Temple, a graveside service will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd.
Alicia Humfleet has known Whitaker for 11 years. She told First Coast News about what a good man Whitaker was.
"He would have given the shirt off his back for anybody," Humfleet said. "He loved his job and he loved everybody no matter what."
The turnout at the procession which escorted Whitaker's body to the funeral home after the accident helped Humfleet focus on his life, instead of his final moments.
"He was fun, loving big heart, great smile," Humfleet said. "Always there when you needed him."
