Student throws rock through window, causing large police presence near Landmark Middle School

School officials say a student began throwing rocks at the entry doors to the school and shattered a window before leaving the school campus.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — There was a large police presence near Landmark Middle School off Kernan Boulevard in Jacksonville Wednesday morning.

No one is injured, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

School officials say a student began throwing rocks at the entry doors to the school and shattered a window before leaving the school campus.

The school was on lockdown for a brief period of time, says Landmark Middle School. That lockdown has since been lifted.

No further details were available from officials.

Below is the communication shared with Landmark Middle School families:

Good morning, Landmark Middles School families,

This is Principal Tyson- White calling.

First let me assure you that the situation in our school is all safe and secure.

However, I do want to let you know that we were on a brief lockdown this morning while we managed the disruptive behavior of one of our students.

The student began throwing rocks at our entry doors and did shatter a window before leaving the school campus.  We are in direct contact with that student’s family, and we have resumed our normal school day.

While I am disappointed to report this incident, we will always take these types of security measures to ensure our campus remains safe. As always, if you have any questions or feedback feel free to reach out to me at the school. Thank you.
