Loose dogs caught on camera killing house cat in Orange Park neighborhood

An Orange Park family is devastated after two dogs were caught on camera killing their house cat.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — A Ring doorbell camera caught two loose dogs on attacking and killing a house cat. Alicia Dawn sent First Coast News the video of her cat getting attacked.

According to Dawn, her cat, Mr. Whiskers, sat on a table on the front porch sunbathing in their Orange Park neighborhood Wednesday. She said her mother-in-law heard a commotion outside. When they checked the Ring video, they saw two dogs yanking the cat off the table.

“The next thing you know, [her cat] is getting pulled up and thrown against my house," Dawn said, close to tears. "How horrible to think what she’s going through. It only lasted a minute. Just seeing her trying to fight back, it’s terrible."

Dawn and other neighbors said they’ve seen the dogs in the video roaming the neighborhood several times before. Since sharing her story, Dawn said other neighbors reached out and said their pets have been injured by dogs matching the description of those in the video.

Dawn and others directed First Coast News to where they said the dogs live. We knocked on the door and reached out to the owners through Facebook and haven’t heard back at the time this article was published.

Dawn and others said their worst fear is the dogs will hurt a child.

“I know dogs will go after small animals because of their prey drive, but I know kids are small too and I have a one-year-old, and so it just terrifies me,” she said.

Dawn filed a report with Clay County Animal Services on Wednesday. First Coast News reached out Sunday but we were told they won’t be able to look up the report or confirm if they’re investigating the incident until Monday.
