The Lake City Water Facilities Departement announced Friday that it will be temporarily changing its water disinfectant process beginning on June 4.

The city said the disinfectant process will change from chloramines, which is a combination of chlorine and ammonia to free chlorine residual, which means only chlorine will be used.

This change will be in effect until June 25.

The city said that this is a common procedure for water utility companies and helps to maintain optimal disinfection levels.

This change may cause residents to notice a difference in the taste, odor and color of water, but it is not harmful, the city said.

The city said that anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home, or anyone who has a tropical fish or aquatic animal should ensure that they have the proper water filtering system for this change.

Anyone with information regarding this change should contact the city office during business hours at 386-466-3350.
