King found guilty in death of woman and unborn daughter

After two juries were unable to decide the fate of Andrew King, a third jury found him guilty of murdering Felicia Burney and her unborn child in 2010.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- After two juries were unable to decide the fate of Andrew King, a third jury found him guilty of murdering Felicia Burney and her unborn child in 2010.

The conviction was handed down Tuesday around 9 p.m. The jury began deliberations around 6 p.m.

Third trial underway for local murder case

The 27-year-old was found guilty of murder in the first degree, killing an unborn child and burglary with assault or battery.

At the time of her death, Burney was living in an Arlington home with King's ex-girlfriend. According to the State Attorney, evidence showed King killed the 23-year-old because he believed she was interfering with his relationship with his ex-girlfriend.

Burney, a mother of three, was 38 weeks pregnant when police said she was stabbed while sleeping on the couch in her apartment.

According to court records, King was tried for the first time in June 2012. The jury deliberated for almost 9 hours and declared a mistrial. This February King was tried again. On March 4 the jury began deliberating, this time asked a question, and after six total hours of deliberation, there was another hung jury.

King faces life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of October 21.

"We were shocked and disappointed by the verdict, because perviously [sic] a jury of 12 people couldn't decide he was guilty, another jury of 6 couldn't decide he was guilty, but his one voted guilty based on the same evidence," King's defense attorney Richard Kurtz said in a text message to FCN."We will absolutely Appeal. Assistant State Attorneys Bernie de la Rionda and Janeen Mira prosecuted the case.
