JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — JTA announced Monday evening that the bus driver who reportedly ran over a woman in Mayport, killing her, has been fired.

A spokesperson with JTA released a statement identifying the bus driver involved in the deadly incident has Jean Silney.

“Following an internal administrative review of the fatal accident that occurred Saturday, June 20, 2019, in Mayport Village, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority has terminated bus operator Jean Silney for violating JTA Operator Work Rules," the statement said. "The JTA continues to cooperate with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office and are withholding further comment on the accident until those investigations conclude.”

Fifty-year-old Jeanie Louise Rozar died Saturday after her arm became stuck in the door as she was getting off the bus, according to witnesses.

"When [the bus driver] realized her arm was in the door, he stopped the bus and opened the door," the witness said. "When he opened the door, her arm came out and she got caught up under the bus."

Ocean Street was closed for multiple hours as police investigated the accident on Saturday.

JSO is still investigating the incident and it is unclear if Silney will face any charges.
