Two Jacksonville Sheriff's officers were involved in separate early-morning crashes Sunday after one of the officers responded to help a motorist with a blown-out tire on Arlington Expressway.
JSO said around 3:58 a.m. an officer stopped to help a motorist with a blown-out tire on Arlington Expressway near the Southside Connector. As the officer was waiting for a tow truck to assist the motorist a vehicle ran into the back of his car, police said.
That officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has since been released, according to JSO.
JSO said a separate officer responded to the crash involving that first officer and was themself involved in a single-vehicle crash. That crash happened on the westbound side of Arlington Expressway around 4:03 a.m.
Police said after initial DUI investigations, it does not seem that any substance was a factor in the first crash. JSO's Traffic Homicide team is also investigating the incident.
Both officers and the driver involved in the first crash are O.K., JSO said.
