JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The Jacksonville Public Library canceled its StoryBook Pride Prom event that was scheduled for June 28 citing safety concerns stemming from protests.

The event was planned to be an LGBTQ-themed prom for teens 14-18 years old at the Willowbranch location. The library said their planning team did a "remarkable" job putting together the event, but had to cancel due to safety concerns.

The Jacksonville Library stated on their Facebook page:

"The co-opting of the event by others who wish to use it for their own purposes has created a situation in which the library is not confident that it will be 100% prepared to provide a safe, secure environment for customers, staff, volunteers, contractors, protestors, and active supporters, and most of all the teens themselves."
