I'm Telling Ken investigates complaint about Genesys Medical Equipment

Albert Raley, 89, paid Genesys Medical Equipment $1,600 for a powered chair in April and has yet to receive it.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — At the Centerstage Barbershop in Regency, between haircuts, there was a lot to talk about at the I'm Telling Ken session.

In the shop, the conversation never stops.

Brian Foster is a veteran who started a bow tie business called Bows and Fros. He wanted On Your Side to know his product is a cut above the rest.

"I wanted something a bit different with some pizzazz," said Foster," and all of our products are hand made."

Sherman Williams, also a veteran, wanted to tell us about his business. He developed a flavored water line, Body Aqua, and said he now has a contract to place the products in select Winn Dixie and Walmart stores.

"I need help to get the word out about the product," said Williams, "help with the marketing."

We heard concerns about how a dog was being treated -- the owners kept it in the garage -- and we heard complaints about mistreatment from the city.

But Albert Raley had an urgent complaint.

"I can walk with my walker, but I need a mobile chair," he said.

Raley, 89, paid Genesys Medical Equipment $1,600 for a powered chair in April.

"I can't do anything being helpless like this," said Raley. "He got the best of me."

Raley's contract shows he paid Genesys Medical Equipment less $87, and the company promised to deliver the chair April 19.

"I need a chair so I can get back and forth for transportation," he said.

This is not the first time On Your Side has had a complaint about this business.

In January, Hilary Lacardi complained after the store sold her deceased parent's powered chair and failed to give her the money.

We went to the store and the owner refunded her money.

Today, we went back to the store and it is closed, a sign on the door provided the mail contact and a phone number.

The Better Business Bureau gives it an "F" rating

According to state records, Sonny Ukpong is the owner. Raley said he has made several efforts to reach him

"Truth is, I don't even know if he has got my chair," said Raley, "I need the chair badder [sic] than I need the money."

We have sent emails to the company and are waiting on a response.

"Give me my money or my chair," said Raley.
