'If they were released, they will die:' Owner looking for stolen lovebirds

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Olga Turvoskiy walks Dellwood Avenue almost every day in search of her stolen lovebirds. She said someone took them from her front porch during Mother’s Day weekend.

“I screamed because I couldn’t believe someone had stolen them in their big cage,” Turvoskiy said. “I got them for myself on Mother’s Day 10 years ago and I loved them with all of my heart.”

Turvoskiy said neighbors have recently reported stolen plants and other items from their homes.

“They said it’s a man on a bicycle and so I’ve reported it to the police but I don’t know if there’s much that can be done,” she said.

Local bird experts said to check online sites like Craigslist and Facebook to see if the birds or cage are up for sale.

“I’m hoping they were sold to a good home because if they were released into the wild, then they probably won’t survive because they’ve always relied on me for food,” Turvoskiy said.

Turvoskiy said she’s willing to pay for the stolen birds if someone has purchased them.

One of the missing birds is “peach-faced,” with green and blue feathers, the other missing bird is red and yellow.
