LIST: How the First Coast can help the Bahamas

The full scope of the disaster in the Bahamas is still unknown. Here's how you can help.

*Many organizations are asking that clothing donations not be made.

The impact of Hurricane Dorian on the Bahamas is devastating.

Airports were flooded and roads impassable after the most powerful storm to hit the Bahamas in recorded history parked over Abaco and Grand Bahama islands.

The Prime Minister of the Bahamas said Monday they are dealing with "a historic tragedy" and the devastation is "unprecedented and extensive."

If you'd like to help the victims of this storm in the Bahamas, here are a few local options. 

Reve Brewing Company

Join Reve and Salt Run BBQ this Saturday for their Green Turtle Cay Hurricane Recovery Fund Raiser. Salt Run BBQ will be serving up plates and donating all their proceeds to The Green Turtle Cay Foundation. It starts at noon and goes until the BBQ is gone!

Dental Care of Eagle Landing

Dental Care of Eagle Landing is collecting donations for those impacted by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

You can drop off donations such as baby food, medical supplies, and other lifesaving items at 1081 Oakleaf Plantation Parkway in Orange Park until September 30. The facility is not taking cash donations.

HOURS: Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Evangel Temple

Evangel Temple at 5755 Ramona Blvd. in Jacksonville is designated to receive supplies for the Bahamas Relief Effort. The church will receive supplies Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 9 to 12, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. 

The following items are needed:

  • Cases of Water
  • Canned Goods and Non-Perishable Food Items
  • 8-10 Man Tents

All supplies will be taken to the port in Fort Lauderdale and will be shipped over on Sept. 12.

Nassau County Humane Society

The Nassau Humane Society is in contact with several pilots and Search and Rescue teams who will be traveling to Nassau Bahamas in the next few days.
Nassau Humane Society has agreed to take in dogs and cats that have survived the storm from the area, which is devasted. The facility is also on stand by to take in dogs and cats already homeless before the storm from local shelters to assist with the influx of displaced animals that may occur.

Brewz/The Volstead

The Volstead and Brews are partnering up to collect donations for ANYTHING you can donate to help the Bahamas. They will make sure all supplies and money get to the right place. They will also be hosting fundraisers at all locations this weekend.

"Please give whatever you can to help out our neighbors to the east, as they would do the same for us," they said on Facebook.

Aimee and her sister will be taking the donations down to south Florida next week. From there the donations will be transported by plane to the Bahamas by our partners Fl Freedivers.

GoFundMe: Bahamas Red Cross Official Hurricane Relief Fund:

Terez Curry, President of The Bahamas Red Cross Society is collecting donations via GoFundMe to help bring aid to the Bahamas. The society acts as an auxiliary to the Bahamas government, by assisting in the times of disaster to bring relief to those most in need.  The organization says that your donation will help feed, and clothe approximately 300 households. Donate here.
