Some lucky high school girls got the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities at the University of North Florida this week as part of a program to get more students interested in healthcare.
The Brooks College of Health hosted 40 Jacksonville high school girls on Thursday and Friday who participated in informative workshops as a part of 'Explore: Empower eXpand and Promote Leadership Opportunities, Resources and Education' in health care.
The program is in partnership with Northeast Florida Area Health Education Centers and PACE Center for Girls and hopes to provide high school students from disadvantaged and/or underrepresented cultural backgrounds the opportunity to learn about careers in healthcare.
The students will receive instruction on what constitutes a healthy meal and will then prepare a lunch based on what they’ve learned. They'll also learn about mental health, clinical and applied movement sciences and engage in a variety of hands-on activities.
