Helicopter makes water drop on wildfire reported near NAS Jax

The fire is said to be 30 percent contained, according to a spokesperson for the Florida Forest Service.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was on the scene of a woods fire across from NAS Jacksonville near Tillie Fowler Park Tuesday. 

The fire then continued into Wednesday morning.

The Florida Forest Service says they are working to contain the 20-30 acre fire in Tillie Fowler Regional Park.

The fire is said to be 30 percent contained, according to a spokesperson for the Florida Forest Service.

They tweeted that firefighters with hand tools will be making fire lines and that a forestry helicopter will be making a water drop today.

A spokesperson with the Florida Forest Service tells First Coast News that early indications show that the fire may have been started by lightning.

Tillie K. Fowler Reginal Park remains open, however, the trails have been closed, a Florida Forest Service spokesperson said.
