Georgia's back-to-school tax free weekend approaches

Shoppers looking to save money on back-to-school supplies will have the chance to buy items tax free in Georgia from July 30-31.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Shoppers looking to save money on back-to-school supplies will have the chance to buy items tax free in Georgia from July 30-31.

The Georgia legislature enacted the sales tax holiday into law which includes clothing items, electronics, and back-to-school supplies.

Clothing items, including footwear, with a sales price of $100 or less, will be tax exempt. The exemption excludes clothing accessories such as jewelry, handbags, umbrellas, eyewear, watches and watchbands.

Computers, components and software purchased for home or personal use with a sales price of $1,000 or less are included under the tax free holiday.

The tax exemption also includes school supplies purchased for noncommercial use with a sales price of $20 or less per item.

Florida’s tax free weekend will kick off on August 5 and run through August 7.
