Georgia teen thanks community as nonprofit fulfills dream of going to College Football National Championship

“It just feels like it was yesterday I was just in Wolfson’s trying to recover and now I’m back at school hanging out with friends and everything.”

The name Camden Lang may sound familiar.

First Coast News first shared his story back in July after he was struck by a car while pushing a golf cart home ---breaking both his legs and back.

Lang finally returned home around Christmas after months of in-patient care and now a non-profit is stepping in to help fulfill his dream.

“It just feels like it was yesterday I was just in Wolfson’s trying to recover and now I’m back at school hanging out with friends and everything,” Lang.

For months, 14-year-old Lang was struggling to even sit up.

“Now I’m walking. The progress I’ve made in six months, it amazes me so much," Lang said.

Progress that was aided with the help of donations of time and money from countless friends and volunteers since the accident.

"Just all the support from the county, redoing the whole remodeling thing everything like that, all glory to God," Lang said.

The process gained the attention of the non-profit Dream on 3 organization.

The non-profit works with select families to fulfill dreams for children with disabilities and severe injuries.

“The first time I met Camden, I walked in and the entire hospital room was decked top to bottom with Ole Miss stuff. I knew from the time I met him that this was the exact kind of sports enthusiast that Dream on 3 wants to work with," said executive director GA affiliate Dream on 3 Michelle Cline.

First Coast News saw that same enthusiasm for sports in July when the Langs let us into their home as friends and volunteers remodeled to make Camden’s room wheelchair-accessible.

“I never thought I’d ever get to go to a National Championship, so it’s cool I get to go,” Camden Lang said.

Lang and his family caught a 6:57 am plane Friday with the final destination of California to fulfill his dream courtesy of Dream on 3.

His parents knew, but until last night, they told him he should be getting ready to start school on Monday. The teenager said he isn't too upset his own parents lied to him.

“To keep a big secret like that, I'm alright with it, I’m going to California to watch Alabama-Clemson, so I’m alright with it," Lang said.

“We’re excited and hope that it’s just going to be a wonderful memory to add to a new chapter to his life," Cline said.
