Gov. Rick Scott suspended a Putnam County School Board member weeks after she was arrested and charged with grand theft.

Nichole Cummings, 41, reportedly tried to steal nearly $400 in merchandise from Walmart on June 18. She did this by using the self checkout line and only scanned a portion of her items, according to a Putnam County Sheriff's Office police report.

The police report also states she committed a similar crime on May 30 where she had several things in her cart like three fishing poles, but only scanned one.

She was charged with grand theft, which is a third-degree felony.

On Friday, Scott's office issued an executive order that suspends Cummings stating that "it is in the best interests of the residents of Putnam County, and the citizens of the State of Florida."

Cummings will also not be receiving pay during her suspension.
