JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Over 25,000 people laced up Saturday for the 2019 First Coast Heart Walk hosted by the American Heart Association, raising $2.1 million for the fight against heart disease and stroke.

The Heart Walk's mission is to fund research to cure heart disease and stroke and is among 300 Heart Walks held across the country, according to a spokesperson.

“Today showed what’s possible when people come together for good," Tom Van Berkel, CEO of The Main Street America Group and Chair of this year’s First Coast Heart Walk said. “We were humbled to be part of such a record-breaking event. A huge thank you to all the leaders, companies, coaches, teams, survivors and volunteers who participated. I was blown away to see the incredible support of our community in the fight to end heart disease and stroke.”
