Rodriguez was a coach for the boys' soccer team at Fort White High School. He was suspended pending the investigation, but on Tuesday night, he was fired. First Coast News was told he was fired for not showing up to work.
"By not showing up, he's absent without leave and we just felt like the best thing to do at this point was go ahead and terminate him and cut our ties with him," said Columbia County School Board Chairman Keith Hudson at a board meeting Tuesday. He also said Rodriguez is restricted from all contact with students at Fort White.
Wednesday, deputies issued a public plea, asking Frisina to call her parents and let them know she is ok.
In response to his firing, Frisina's mom told First Coast News: "I think that this is one of the first steps in trying to rectify the situation. I absolutely think it is something that you have to do to secure the safety and well-being of all of our children."
The school board is assisting police in their search for Frisina and Rodriguez, Hudson said.
Authorities found that Frisina took out $200 at a Pilot Travel Center on St. Mary's Road in St. Mary's, Georgia.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office also confirmed both Frisina and Rodriguez were spotted together on surveillance video at a convenience store in South Carolina. The tipline opened at 4 p.m. Tuesday has gotten steady calls overnight, according to reports.
Authorities believe the two are still heading north. Police said Frisina has family in New York and Rodriguez could possibly have family in Canada and Pennsylvania.
Frisina is described to be 5-foot-7, 135 pounds with brown hair. She sometimes wears her hair up with a headband.
Her father posted a plea to his daughter and wrote:
