ORANGE PARK, Fla. — A couple said their vows in a hospital room at the Orange Park Medical Center Wednesday after deciding to get remarried before the husband transitioned to hospice care.

A spokesperson for the hospital said 73-year-old Brian Beni was admitted to the hospital after a long fight against cancer. Before going into hospice, staff created an intimate wedding ceremony for Brian and his wife, Lynn Beni, during their last hours at the hospital.

Lynn and Brian met when they were 13 years old and reconnected just 12 years ago, fell in love and got married, according to the hospital.

Hospital staff played the couple's song from their first wedding and helped Brian be "as comfortable as possible" while they took their vows and performed a sand ceremony.

The couple later had dessert by candlelight.

The event was organized by Patient Care Technician Rose Burnell, who cared for Brian 12 years ago during his first stay at the hospital. Burnell cared for Brian often over the years and was assigned to care for him during his big day.
