CLAY COUNTY, Fla — The Clay County board of commissioners declined a request by the school board to hold a special public vote this November that would decide on a half-cent sales tax to support schools.

There was plenty of turnout at Tuesday night's meeting, especially by those from the opposition. Those against the decision weren't necessarily against a half-cent sales tax, but more so opposing the expense of a specialized election to decide it.

The Clay County Commission's vote was unanimous to give the proposal back to the school board for possible revision.

As it stands now, the vote likely won't happen until the November 2020 election.
