Child taken to hospital after finding gun in Southside thrift store, accidentally shooting self in hand

Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department crews transported the child from San Pablo and Beach Boulevard. JSO says the shooting was accidental.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A child is being treated for an accidental gunshot wound to the hand, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO says the child found a gun inside the Hope's Closet Thrift Store, located at Beach Boulevard and San Pablo Road and shot themselves in the hand accidentally.

The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department tells First Coast News they transported a patient to the hospital for treatment from the same address.

JSO says no criminal activity is being investigated at this time. They would not specify the age of the child, but described them as "young."
