AUTOPSY REPORT: Deaths of father and son who crashed in a plane near Mayport ruled accident

JSO says their dive team located the plane on Feb. 6 and found the bodies inside.

The Medical Examiner has confirmed the identities of the two bodies found inside an aircraft off the coast of Mayport in February and now, the autopsy reports have come back.

The Medical Examiner says that Peter Renzulli, 51, and Daniel Renzulli, 18, were found inside the submerged plane located by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office dive team.
The autopsies for Peter and Daniel Renzulli indicate their deaths were an accident and that they likely died upon their aircraft crashing into the ocean. Blunt force trauma to the head, neck, torso, and extremities was the cause of death.

JSO says their dive team located the plane on Feb. 6, and found the bodies inside.

The father and son from New Jersey crashed into the ocean east of Jacksonville back in December.

Attorney Justine Marchetta says the father and son took off from the Kissimmee Airport in Orlando at around 9 a.m. on and were heading to Princeton, NJ.

About 30 minutes into the flight, the aircraft, a Piper PA46-350P Malibu, disappeared from radar, the statement says.

The disappearance sparked a 52-hour search for the aircraft that was suspended Saturday night.

“The family was devastated to learn that the aircraft could not be located,” said Marchetta. “Peter and Daniel are accomplished pilots and their disappearance is heartbreaking.”

Marchetta says Peter Renzulli had recently completed 30 hours of advanced instruction in the Piper Malibu and was looking forward to returning to New Jersey.

Renzulli was an adjunct professor at Rutgers University and appeared frequently on CNN as a "financial matter guru," according to his Linkedin page.
