At least one person dead after mobile home catches fire in NW Jacksonville

One person died in a house fire on the Northwest side of Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — At least one person died in a mobile home fire in Northwest Jacksonville Monday, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

The fire happened in the 8600 block of Messer Road, fire rescue said. Firefighters said the home was heavily involved in fire when JFRD arrived.

The identity of the deceased has not been released because the body is badly burned, thus JFRD said a positive identification has not been made. 

Firefighters said a man who is around 55 years old lived inside the home and his car remains parked in the driveway. The man's family is at the scene.

Neighbors said they heard a "pop" before seeing smoke from the home.

Fire rescue has not disclosed the cause of the fire. The fire marshal is investigating.
