Hundreds of white crosses in St. Johns County will pay tribute to soldiers Veterans Day who were born in Florida and killed in war.
Each of the 351 crosses will bear a picture of the soldier's photo, name, branch of service and date of death, says Jackie Valyou of Helping Hands of St. Johns County, the volunteer organization behind the event.
Eight large crosses will represent soldiers countrywide who have died in the years since World War I.
Each soldier's name will be read accompanied by a bell toll. The memorial walkthrough of the crosses is open from dawn until dusk with no expected donation.
The event is planned for Veterans Day at 3 p.m. at the Faith Community Church in St. Johns County.
