A firefighter with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) has been charged after authorities say he exposed himself to a child.
Brandon Conn, of Fernandina Beach, has been charged with lewd and lascivious exhibition on a child. He has since been suspended from JFRD without pay pending adjudication.
According to the Fernandina Police Department, on March 11 at approximately 2 p.m, a police officer was dispatched to the area of Sea Side Park located at 2002 South Fletcher Avenue in regards to reports of sexual exposure.
Upon arrival, the mother of the victim told police that a man had just exposed his sexual organs to her child. The mom told police that she approached the man after the alleged incident and when questioned, the man denied the accusations.
She says that the man left the area when she advised she was calling the police. A license plate number was used to track down Brandon Conn.
Statement from Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department:
"Brandon Conn has been suspended without pay pending adjudication. As soon as we were notified of Mr. Conn’s arrest, he was immediately removed from contact with the public and placed on administrative duties. It took several days to confirm the severity of the charges against him as a result of legal protections to the accused. As soon as that information was confirmed, he was immediately suspended without pay pending adjudication.
No other arrests have been reported to JFRD beyond the most recent one in regards to Brandon Conn. By policy, the employee is responsible to notify JFRD of any arrest within 24 hours of their release from jail. There is no record of Mr. Conn notifying JFRD of any previous arrest. "
Police say that this is an ongoing investigation.
