Gov. DeSantis: 2.4 million people have been tested for COVID-19 in Florida

The 12:45 p.m. update took place in the Medical Arts Building at the Blake Medical Center.

BRADENTON, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gave a coronavirus update Saturday afternoon from Bradenton, Florida. During the news conference, he discussed the latest COVID-19 numbers for the state.

The 12:45 p.m. update took place in the Medical Arts Building at the Blake Medical Center.

During the news conference, DeSantis said that a shipment of Remdesivir was being sent out to hospitals. The drug has been shown to help with treatment for COVID-19 patients.

To date, DeSantis said 2.4 million people have been tested which equates to 1 in every 9 people. The positivity rate for the last couple of days was 12.5%, according to DeSantis.

“We increased from the end of June into July, but then it’s been plateaued for the last two weeks, which is a good sign,” DeSantis continued. “We’d rather be plateaued at 4%, but we didn’t want to see it continue to just go up and up.”

The range in ages for COVID-19 cases is now 15 to 54, with most fatalities being those between 65 and 75 plus, DeSantis said.
