The Clay County Health Department is investigating a possible case of mumps in a child Thursday, according to a spokesperson.
The Clay County Health Department said that a child, under the age of four, who is up to date on vaccinations could have the mumps virus.
The department is not yet clear how the child could have contracted the virus and is currently monitoring for other potential cases.
According to a spokesperson for the department, there have been no other reported cases of mumps within the last two years.
This case is not believed to be associated with the recent outbreak of mumps in Gainsville.
