Florida man crashes into power pole, street sign and occupied police car before trying to flee

Citizens in the area assisted the injured officer and called for help. The officer was transported to UF Health with injuries and is in stable condition.

Police responded to a crash with injuries on Thursday morning after they say a man swerved off the roadway, hit a power pole, a street sign, and then a police car before trying to run away.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says that around midnight on Thursday an officer with JSO was on routine patrol and was parked in the 2600 block of West 45th Street.

Police say another vehicle was driving in the area and, for an unknown reason, left the roadway, hit a power pole, a street sign and then struck the left front side of the JSO patrol vehicle with the officer inside.

Citizens in the area assisted the injured officer and called for help. The officer was transported to UF Health and is currently in stable condition.

The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle that struck the JSO officer and initially remained on the scene before trying to flee on foot. JSO caught the man and he now faces multiple charges.

The identity of that suspect has not yet been released.
