Jacksonville student at center of viral classroom video: 'I felt amazing'

The cute video shows kiddos cheering for a student who answers a math question correctly, earning the whole class free time.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — We’re hearing from the Jacksonville teacher and students at the center of a viral video millions are watching online.

The cute video shows kiddos cheering for a girl who answers a math question correctly, earning the whole class free time.

Biscayne Elementary School teacher Dwayne Taylor offered his second grade class free time on the condition that Harlie McCary answered a math question correctly. She aced it and the kids erupt with joy.

Taylor said this class is a special one because he taught them in first and second grade.

“I love being a teacher altogether, but to be with this particular group of students,” Taylor said, “I love the fact that they bond so well. We have a bond that is going to last forever.”

Harlie’s friends surround her, celebrating the victory.

“I felt amazing,” McCary said. “When we cheer for each other, it keeps each other confident, and we get better and better as we cheer for each other.”

Judah Johnson even begins crying tears of joy in the video for his classmate, and another student comforts him with a hug.

“I don’t really play football,” Johnson said, “but it felt like I won the Super Bowl.”

Taylor said these little moments happen in his classroom every day because of the environment he creates.

“I’m glad that this video sends that message,” Taylor said, “that you know, we should always support one another and just motivate one another and inspire each other.”

The video’s been shared by celebrities and the official Ted Lasso account on Twitter.
