An arrest warrant has been issued for a 37-year-old Jacksonville man believed to be involved in the hit-and-run crash that killed two bicyclists in St. Johns County over the weekend.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said they are looking for Henry Haigler III. They believe he struck two women with his vehicle around 10 a.m. Saturday in the area of 5400 Race Track Road, near Bartram Springs Parkway, according to the arrest report.
Haigler reportedly fled the scene. The two women were found dead at the scene next to a pair of mangled bicycles, according to the report. Authorities haven't released their identities.
Investigators were able to gather enough evidence and determine the suspected vehicle and its potential driver.
They identified the suspected driver as Haigler and tried making contact with him. They were told he wasn't in the position to speak to them. Haigler also didn't pick-up or return their calls, the arrest report said.
Authorities traveled to his home, but he refused to be interviewed or allowed them to review his registered vehicle, the report said. SJSO continued their case by serving a search warrant at his house, where the vehicle was found with biological material and hair embedded in the front windshield, the report said.
Based on their findings, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Haigler Monday afternoon.
Detectives arrived at the home in an attempt to serve the warrant, however, no contact was made with Haigler. Occupants of the home stated he had not been there since the night of the crash.
