Deadly shooting in West Augustine; one person of interest sought

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office responded to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old in West Augustine (West St. Augustine) Friday.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office responded to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old in West Augustine (West St. Augustine) Friday.

SJSO said the shooting occurred at Christopher St. and Aiken St. after an argument. They said the victim, Lavert Durden, was fatally shot multiple times by a suspect not yet found.

Police do not have any identification or characteristics of the shooter, but released information of two persons of interest they would like to speak to for questioning about an altercation/argument that occurred with the victim just prior to the shooting.

Person wanted for questioning:

  • Brandon Calloway (B.C.), 30, a black male who lives in St. Johns County. Police say he has connections to Putnam, Flagler and Duval counties.
  • Traevon Watson (Tray, Munch), 20, who was also at the scene at a time of the argument that police think sparked the shooting.

UPDATE: Traevon Watson has been located and is speaking with detectives, according to police.
