Woman shot in leg in Durkeeville neighborhood

Police said a woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries after she was shot in the leg in Durkeeville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman is expected to be OK after she was shot in the leg in a Durkeeville neighborhood Sunday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police responded to the shooting at 1300 W. 11th St. at 6:30 p.m. Once at the scene, officers found a woman in her mid-30s suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her leg. She was taken to a hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

JSO has not disclosed if the woman was struck by a stray bullet or if the shooting is tied to other shooting incidents in the neighborhood.

Sharon Bent has family living in the area the shooting happened. She said she's worried about violence across the city.

"It's not just this area," she said. "It's everywhere. We just have to pray and you have to be safe and you have to watch you know."
